The honest answer to “how much does a website cost in Australia?” starts with who publishes a price. Among Australian providers that do, a build ran from $250 to $7,500 when I read them in August 2026, before any hosting, SEO or maintenance, and the larger agencies I checked publish nothing to compare. The range is wide because the build (design, copy, development) and the ongoing care (hosting, SEO, monitoring, content) are 2 separate bills, and every provider draws the line between them somewhere different.
I bundle everything (an SEO-ready build + hosting + monitoring + ongoing website changes) into a single monthly fee, and I eat the upfront build cost so you don't pay until the site is live. That changes the maths from a build price paid before you've seen anything to $297 a month, starting once the site is up.

Monthly plans can look alike on price and still leave you holding very different things at the end. These 5 questions show the difference in a minute. Ask them of anyone, me included, and ask for the answers in writing.
1. Whose name is the domain in?
Yours. You own the domain from day 1.

The code and the words are yours from day 1, along with any logo and photos you send me. Any stock photos I license for the site stay under the licence they were bought on.

3. What happens to the site if you move on?
After the 12th payment it's paid off, and you choose: I keep hosting it for free, or I hand you the full code to host wherever you like and help with the move. No exit fee.

4. What counts as a lead?
A call of 60 seconds or longer from a search engine, or a completed form from a genuine prospect. Where it's unclear, it counts in your favour.

Yes, after the 12th payment, which pays for your website in full. Give 30 days written notice (you can give it during the 12th month, so nothing is charged after it) and choose free hosting with me or the full code to host elsewhere. You keep the site, the domain and the code. No exit fees.
Because the 12 payments are your website's full price, spread out so you pay nothing upfront, and the first is only charged the day it goes live. What you get in return is ownership. The domain, the code and the words are yours from day 1, and once the 12th payment is made nothing more is owed for the website. After the 12th payment your website is paid off, and you choose: keep your plan at $297 a month for website changes and a quarterly SEO review, or cancel, and I'll either keep hosting your site for free or hand you the full code to host wherever you like. When a plan says cancel anytime, it's worth asking what happens to the site when you do.
